About Dog Paddle Designs

Dog Paddle Designs was originally launched by Cody Strathe. His dog sled designs have been extremely popular among competitive and recreational dog mushers for many years. Cody and his partner, Paige Drobny, own the highly successful distance mushing kennel Squid Acres and the Susitna Adventure Lodge.  These ventures required Cody to discontinue building sleds.

In 2025, Torsten Kohnert became the new owner of Dog Paddle Designs and will once again be creating these amazing sled designs.

About Torsten

Torsten Kohnert and his wife, Peggy, were born and raised in Germany. They moved to Sweden with their sled dog team at the age of 27. There they built a successful racing and tour kennel. They participated in long distance races in Norway like the Finnmarkslöpet , and became parents of two wonderfull daughters. When they traveled to Alaska to compete in long distance mushing events, they fell in love with the Last Frontier.

Torsten and Peggy now own Alaska Wilderness Adventures  and offer world class dog sledding tours in interior Alaska. During the summer and fall, they offer fishing and raft trips in the heart of Alaska.

Torsten also has a distinguished distance mushing career, competing in such races as the Finnmarkslöpet, Pasvik Trail, Femundslöpet, Gin Gin, Copper Basin, and Yukon Quest. He has finished the 1000 mile Yukon Quest International race when it ran between Fairbanks, Alaska and Whitehorse, Yukon Territory.

Explore the dog sled designs that Torsten will be bringing back to the wild trails he loves to travel. Whether you are a competitive distance musher, a recreational adventurer, or just want to experience the joy of winter on a lightweight kick sled, Dog Paddle Designs can build a sled to meet your needs.
